During the last week the Oakland Athletics Baseball Club has gone from having one Australian on their major league roster to three, as the A's General Manager Billy Beane is playing some wise "Moneyball" with Aussies. Richard Thompson joins the bullpen from the Angels and Luke Hughes comes to the team from the Twins, and is a possible contender for the starting third base job. Grant Balfour joined the A's in 2011 and he is currently the closing pitcher for the team. This will result in the total number of Australians to have played for the A's, to date, to be four with Chris Snelling having played there for part of the 2007 season. The A's will certainly be followed closely by the baseball faithful in Australia.
