Cadel Evans makes Australian sporting history

Cadel Evans (pictured above) has become the first Australian to win the world's most coveted cycling event the Tour de France. His achievement is not just for Australia but also for the entire Southern Hemisphere as he has become the first ever winner from this region. Evans was a true champion well before winning the 2011 Tour de France. He participated in the Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 Summer Olympic Games in mountain biking, and since 2005 he has shined in the Tour de France, which includes placing second twice. For his contribution to sport and Australia Evans is most deserving to receive the Order of Australia in 2012.
